Meeting Our Pets 🐶🐱 #7

AlejaR

Emilio🐹

Hey folks!

Welcome to our team "Meeting Our Pets " blog series.

This week I'm happy to introduce to you Emilio (Myles' Brother), the guinea pig cutie pie. Emilio loved owner is @AdamDam, who's one of our wonderful Spotify Stars!

Let's read!

How did your pet become a part of your life? Is there a history behind it?

I adopted Emilio at the same time as Myles, his brother whom you can read about in this previous Community Blog from last December. I enjoyed taking care of a pet guinea pig when I was growing up, and a few months ago I decided that I would like to adopt guinea pigs again (but two of them this time, as I had read that they’re herd animals and prefer living with at least one other guinea pig).

What is he like? Are there any traits you like the most about him?

Compared to his brother Myles, Emilio tends to be more social towards myself and other humans. Emilio is usually the first one to “beg” for treats when I walk up the stairs to their room, or when I open the refrigerator door, crinkle a plastic bag, etc.; Emilio puts his front paws on the ledge of the enclosure and cranes his neck outwards, usually also making “wheeting” sounds. In general, Emilio also doesn’t seem to mind if I pet him, unlike his brother, who usually only tolerates being petted while eating vegetable treats. I’d say that a particular trait I like the most about Emilio is the same one that I mentioned for Myles in the aforementioned previous Community Blog: he often makes “chutting” noises (a sign of contentment for guinea pigs) when I take him outside on the front porch or the backyard with his brother on days when the weather is nice, as well as after I clean their enclosure and put down new bedding. I think that like Myles, Emilio seems to be curious about changes to his environment, and the “chutting” noises while he’s exploring are always nice to hear, since it means that he’s in a good mood.

What is his favorite treat/food?

Emilio’s favorite treats/foods seem to be all leafy green lettuces, and he’s especially partial to parsley and carrots as well. Also similarly to Myles, I think Emilio likes the pieces of hay with seed heads the most when he’s foraging in the hays racks.

What is his favorite activity? Does he have any special skills you want to share?

In a similar way to Myles, I’d say that Emilio’ favorite activity is eating vegetables or sometimes fruit. As for a special skill, Emilio likes to re-arrange the wooden hidey houses to his particular liking by shoving them around, whenever I clean his and Myles’ enclosure.

Tell us some anecdotes (funny or special ones) about him.

Emilio sometimes tries to “claim” one of the wooden hidey houses that Myles is already in, being the first to initiate the “rumbling” sounds that they make when they’re arguing over who gets to be in one of the houses—so in addition to seeming to me like the more social of the two guinea pigs, Emilio also seems to be a bit more argumentative. Also, usually when I give Emilio and Myles each a small piece of carrot as a treats, they both quickly dart into their wooden houses with the carrot pieces and eat them there instead of out in the open. I’m guessing that the reason for this behavior is that Emilio and Myles consider carrots to be particularly valuable treats, which they don’t want anyone to steal, so they hide when they get them.

Share with us a song that make you think of your pet 🎶

This song reminds me of Emilio mainly because of the high-pitched guitar notes that you can hear towards at about 4:16 as well as at 4:32 minutes into the song, reminding me of some of Emilio’s more enthusiastic “wheeting” sounds.

Send him some love! He's just like a tiny cloud.

That's all for this time. We'll be sharing more stories about our pets soon!
