Release Radar this week was almost all AI generated music

Release Radar this week was almost all AI generated music

My Question or Issue

I usually check out the release radar once per week just in case there's some fun new music I've missed out on.
This week though I noticed that out of the 30 tracks, 23 of them all followed a very specific pattern:
  • All from artists with just one or two tracks in their library, with no listeners and no followers or no related artists.
  • All tracks are slightly less than 2 minutes long.
  • All track titles suffixed with "- Original Mix".
  • All the album art is some AI generated variation of colored squares or triangles.
  • All tracks structurally sound pretty much the same. A simple four on the floor beat with a wobbly bass line and random twinkly synth sounds on top.
  • Some times even the actual melodies were identical between several tracks as well.
Is this an AI thing?
Are AI people flooding Spotify with terrible AI made music that somehow satisfies Spotify's algorithm and gets hyper-promoted?

I grabbed all the suspected AI tracks and put them in a playlist here: AI tracks?

I've found a lot of gems through the release radar over they years, and if it ends up becoming unusable due to a flood of AI generated stuff that would be awful!

Yep, I'm dealing with the same trash. Currently almost all of my Release Radar tracks are AI generated trash by 'artists' with a handful of plays, followers and releases. Shouldn't be that hard to filter that out of the algorithm...

20 new tracks of the same stuff today. No bueno.😓

Another 19 tracks of the same, plus 3 repeats I had already "disliked" from previous weeks.

This is becoming boring now.

Exactly the same here! Since 3 or 4 weeks, my Release Radar (that I always used to loyally follow!) is infested by AI generated trash. Today it's 20 out of 30 tracks, meaning I only get to listen to 10 new tracks.
How on earth does this end up on Spotify?? Judging by the lack of response from Spotify personnel, I assume it's Spotify themselves doing this.
For me it is a reason to cancel my Spotify account and be very public about this on social media. This is bad for artists and record labels, after all!
Spotify, stop this!!!!!

For what it's worth, a lot of these tracks seem to have been removed from Spotify now. 👍

Same here. Started happening a month ago with a few entries, and now my Release Radar is almost 100% spam. My Discover Weekly is affected too.

These are the only reasons I use Spotify to be honest, so thinking of jumping ship.

I´m with you on this, it´s totally unacceptable, it hurts music fans and REAL artists as well, come on, Spotify, gives us something about this BS.

I don't like being lied to. The deceit is obvious.

"Live in concert". Right.

What's a Spotify Rock Star, and how do I become one?

Glad to hear that I am not the only one! Those songs in my release reader also sound very similar!

I have exactly the same problem with my Discover Weekly and it's driving me crazy.

Out of the blue and without any change in my listening behavior, Spotify has been spamming my Discover Weekly playlist with AI-generated "music" for about 3 months now, which couldn't be further from the music stored in my playlists.

It's always the same pattern:

The Discover Weekly playlist contains almost exclusively 1 - 2 minute, monotonous, extremely generic tracks without any vocals, from "artists" whose accounts are a few days to a few weeks old. The "artists" have a few hundred monthly listeners, but some of the tracks have already been clicked on tens of thousands of times. Outside of Spotify and sometimes other streaming platforms, the "artists" don't exist. No social media. The internet doesn't know them.

Of course, I have already contacted support with my problem. Their core message was that they blamed me and that I should trust the "holy algorithm". The question of why Spotify suggests "AI-artists" instead of real artists and why the problem suddenly occurred were completely ignored.

I actually rule out the possibility that my account was hacked or used by a third party, as I could have seen that from the listening history. In addition, only Shazam is linked to the app.

It seems pretty clear to me that robot content creators are able to profit from this mechanism and cause the platform to take a dive. What isn't so clear is why spotify allow this to happen. In principle it should only be allowed if it makes them extra revenue but my understanding of their algos makes this unlikely in the extreme. What is likely is that it pees off loyal customers by reducing the follow-up play system to an annoying source of garbage sounds.

If it can be useful this is a conversation had with Spotify Support.
TLDR: I'd like to let the artist to specify if a song or content is AI generated

Hi, I've sent a report about an artist. I think that the music is AI generated, maybe also the album image, the artist image and the bio. If it's like this, I would like to be informed about it, thanks!

This is not a complaint about the artist. It's just that I'd like to be informed. Thanks
You at 11:12 AM, Mar 29

Yes I understand!
Spotify at 11:14 AM, Mar 29

Thanks for waiting. I checked with my support team here and also my resources and what I can tell you is there is no restriction for AI generated music on Spotify. And coming to if the Artist that you sent is using AI to generate the music, we are not really sure about that.
Spotify at 11:22 AM, Mar 29

Ok, I'm not sure even. But one song skip at 1:53. Anyway, nothing so important... maybe this could be just a feature request. Let the artist specify if a song or content is AI generated... like youtube or facebook are going to do for some arguments (if I remember correctly)

That is a great Idea actually. We’re always working on new ways to improve and really appreciate your feedback on this! Since this functionality is helpful for you, we'd recommend you post your observations via the Spotify Community
And also, I will make a note of it and pass it down to the proper team from my end as well.

What has Spotify done about this since? I am still experiencing this issue with my Discover and radio recommendations being full of AI-generated spam tracks.

Same, it’s making it difficult to continue to enjoy using Spotify.

I like to check the Release Radar Playlist to see what new songs of my favorite genre are available. For some time now, this playlist has been flooded with "AI artists". I have no desire to listen to AI music and find this music a disgrace. How can I prevent AI music from being shown to me or getting into my playlist? If Spotify doesn't get this AI flood under control, I'll delete my account.

Go back to supporting small artists, stop with this ai progression. I enjoy finding new artists and don't want to be force fed big names.

Number of AI Musical in my playlist increases Month by month. Is there a way to completely reset my taste profile? If not the only option I See is to test it with a new account. If it comes to that I might as well try the competition.

wow trhis is a year ago? im getting on here because its an issue now, big time what do we do?

My Question or Issue

Recently, I've stumbled across a handful of "artists" with nonsense song titles and artist names, each with a single song of right around 2:00. Most of the found artists also have an extremely similar quality, as though the songs are AI generated from the same prompt with a different seed. Is Spotify aware of this issue? I know there was a huge FBI bust earlier this year with a guy stealing some millions in royalties. I wonder how much of an arms race this is between scammers and moderators...🤔
