My Question or Issue

Certain songs seem to only be playable from within the app and not via Spotify Connect, how is that possible? For instance the song “Spelregels” by Nielson.

Hey @Sjeesjie,

Thanks for posting in the Community.

Could you share a link to the song you're unable to play via Connect?

It's also worth trying a different account to replicate the issue. This way we can exclude any account related issues.

Just to be on the safe side, could you also try a different internet connection, e.g. a hot spot from your phone?

Let us know how that went,

Cheers!

Hi thanks for answering. It’s this song:

https://open.spotify.com/track/3NL4LJhYBVcmhytlpW2OqV?si=WvKTQM-ZTAeDu63pD6q9Ww

It’s part of a television show. The newest couple of songs are on top of a playlist and when I select any of the newest songs, Connect automatically skips right to the first one that was part of last week’s show. So that made me think it’s a copyright issue or something, just curious how that works.

I’ll try your suggestion with different accounts. Don’t know how to use a hotspot with my Connect player though. Your player and your remote must be on the same wifi, right?

By the way right now the songs play normally.  Maybe I’ll try with next weeks songs to see if it happens again. Cooling down period perhaps?

It happens again with the setlist of this week:

https://open.spotify.com/album/3N6M1Br8m4xFffGO8zQRpZ?si=J0Gn595YRX6pH3SvOZDn2Q

It’ll only play one song, when the next is chosen then it skips right to the end and stops.

Hey @Sjeesjie,

Thank you for keeping in contact and for the info shared.

We've checked the setlist you sent, and it could have some market restrictions. However, if it plays directly on the app, it should play on any connected device. To continue investigating, would you mind checking with a different network connection as suggested before by @Dian? In case you don't have another one available, you can connect all the devices to a mobile data hotspot to test it.

Also, just to make sure; the playlist you sent works fine on the app, but is showing the issue again in Connect?

We'll be on the lookout.

That’s right Oscar, but it’s only showing this behavior until a couple of days after the television broadcast. So Thursday for example is the broadcast. They sing some new songs that will be put on Spotify the same day. But of the six songs maybe one is playable on Connect. The rest is only accessible via the app. Until maybe sunday and then everything is just fine.

By the way it’s also happening when I use a Bluetooth speaker, so not connected to the wifi at all.

Hi there @Sjeesjie,

Thanks for the post.

This sounds a bit odd, since it's happening when your playing through Bluetooth.

Can you check if it's happening when you stream the music from your phone and from your PC, if possible?

To be honest, the issue is most likely coming from how the new tracks are uploaded to the Spotify library by the creator, so it might be taking longer for some releases to sync up with the database. Can you send us a link to some of these tracks, so we can check this further backstage?

Cheers.

Hi Alex

Thanks for answering. It’s hard to give you a list of songs because as I said Thursday evening they get uploaded, then the issue is there. Some days later, sunday, they work as expected.

Each time it’s the top 6 songs of this list:

Hey @Sjeesjie,

Thanks for the link.

We'll check why this might be happening and get back to you as soon as possible.

Cheers.

Hi @Sjeesjie!

We weren't able to reproduce this behavior on our end. When the playlist updates and new songs have been added, could you connect your iPhone to your Bluetooth speaker and try playing them? Use mobile data (4G or 5G) instead of Wifi this time to see if you'd still experience the same behavior.

Let us know how it goes.
