My idea is pretty interesting and I feel like it could help Spotify when it comes to selecting music for users and their different taste profiles. AI is at my idea's core and I feel like if Spotify implented this idea into its app by allowing users to choose a different taste profile at a single tap then I feel like Spotify's reccomended songs would only get better and better. As it stands, the AI only reccomends songs based upon one specific song or one specific artist or a playlist that has already been made by someone and then it decides if you want to listen to another genre or if it wants you to stay in the same genre (in my case this happened, and yes, I turned off the shuffle and it kept doing it.)
To remedy this, I propose a new tab in the Spotify app that looks like a tree with a tree icon. On each end of a tree branch is a music genre in a bubble that a user likes and it will expand the library in that genre with different artists and songs by artists that fall in that music genre. This will remedy the issue of music genres crossing over and it ruining the mood. To "focus" on the genre, the user simply needs to click on the bubble and select focus and then the AI will always default back to that music genre.
To select a different music genre related to that genre, users would simply click on the current branch bubble and see what the sub-genres of that genre are or the genres that came before that genre and they could choose to explore them and expand that library with liked songs or they can just stay where they are.
Over time, a user's tree will grow its branches and get big and there will be new branches added because Spotify reccomended that song or the user looked it up and Spotify started branching out and making a new taste profile with it aka a branch bubble. The more that a user listen's to that branch bubble, the bigger it gets.
The reason why this is great is because it will allow users to select what genre of music that they want with the single touch of a finger. Just zoom in, select the tree branch bubble and then hit play and Spotify will grow that branch and expand and find ALL of the songs within its database. It doesn't matter if it's well-known or obscure, Spotify will play it ALL.
To avoid repetitive songs (aka only the most well-known songs), Spotify should also update the AI to avoid repeating songs regardless of which playlist that it came from. I can't tell you how many times I have played a playlist and the same exact song is in those playlists but I don't want to play that song. I don't hate that song but it constantly showing up annoys me because It's in every single playlist that I am playing. (Growing one's tree branch bubble would also be a difficult task if there were repeating songs because the tree branch bubble would never grow and users would never be able to find new songs or artists that they like, just the same ones.)
If a user would not like to "focus" on a genre, then that is where Spotify's default reccomended takes over and sees which bubble has been played the most recently and choose from that unless you didn't want that. Perhaps you could select only a few genres and play that and nothing else.
If a user wishes to not expand their branch bubble, then they could turn off an option called "explore" which is how the AI knows when and when not to repat music. This is essentially just the user re-playing their liked songs and nothing else. But the database is so large that it wouldn't really matter if a song repeated or not because there would be so many songs.
Lastly, in an effort to enchance a user's experience on Spotify, perhaps users could also tell the tree how they are feeling today or maybe Spotify could read their heart rate moniter and tell what mood that they are in and that will change the branch bubble to something that they like or something that they desire. Like, you could type into the tree AI's speech bubble that you wanted to listen to new 2024 pop hits and it would discover new 2024 pop hits for you and that's all it would do until you told it to stop. Or, you could tell it that you were using it to play on a radio speaker and you were describing the audience to the tree and then the tree would play music based on what you are telling it.
Like, you could tell the tree "a crowd of people from Alabama in their 60s that loves country music will be listening" and then Spotify might play some southern rock or some country music from the 60s or a local rock band from Alabama from the 1960s or whatnot unless you specify what music that they like. Spotify could also read other people's phones who also have Spotify and it could reach into their tree data and see what the might like with their tree. Essentially, it's one AI communicating with another about which songs to play and which ones will be the best. The more trees that one AI has access too, the better. Because then it could "fine tune" the experience by coming to a happy medium that everyone likes. It would essentially do this by seeing how many people like X song in a specific genre or how big a person's branch bubble is and then deciding what to play based upon what those other people like the most, or what genres they like.
If wou wish to not impress others, then you could have a little fun with it and describe yourself or how you are feeling or what you want the mood to be. The tree will then know what to do and select it and set the mood or make a music bubble for it or whatnot. I'll call it the "Tree of Knowledge".
These are all ideas of course but the possibilies are endless. I have all sorts of ideas with this tree concept and it's really amazing. Spotfiy would very much benefit from having AI in its app. Let me know if this is a very odd idea or if it could be useful. I think it could be. AI is the future
