Make Spotify DJ less repetitive

I really like the Spotify DJ concept and the system of switching "set" if I'm not in the mood for a specific set, however, for me it's extremely repetitive. Spotify DJ seems to think that I only want to listen to maybe 20 songs and shuffles these again and again. I would really have liked if Spotify DJ made me discover new artists and songs. If I liked the song/artist, I could give the DJ a thumbs up, and vice versa. Mix things up a bit please, there are more than 10 million artists on Spotify, surely the DJ could be more creative in its suggestions.

Never repeat a song option 🙂

It would also be nice if I could give the DJ a prompt/mood and it can curate some songs. It’s so frustrating knowing the vibe I want, but Spotify’s attempt at guessing what I want is always wrong. Every. Single. Time. Its algorithm is so broken. I just want to TELL you what I want.

My thought exactly. I liked it at first and then it started getting really repetitive. Today, it was just wrong. DJ said, being all groovy, something about getting into some jazz, and played a whole set of funk. Other times it plays something that I never would or have. The DJ is also horrible at segues (DJ really sucks at segues). Isn't that a job requirement of a DJ?

The new "shuffle for" feature is better at picking music than the DJ. They should take lessons from each other.

i would love to open a dialogue with an actual Spotify person. Wouldn't that be nice. Hello Skynet!

DJ needs a lot of improvement.

I also suspect the DJ is a feedback loop. It'll play me an artist I don't really know, and then it'll play the song again a few days later, and then it wants to throw in a whole block of songs by that artist because I've "been listening to them alot lately." I don't think the DJ's own choices should be part of my listening profile.

DJ X has totally been lacking fantasy lately, playing the same handful of songs to the point that I have now sacked him. Not always in the same order, but sure enough, I will soon be treated to yet another replay of the song I grew tired of months ago (and the only one who ever selected that song in the first place was mr DJ himself!)

So more variation would definitely be welcome, and i would especially like X to more often base his selections from the 1500+ songs I have marked as Liked. Couldn't go wrong, cold it?

agree more than 100 percent!!!!!!!!!!! As a DJ X really sucks. Cannot even
do a smooth segue.

So accurate. For me, DJ plays one of:

  1. The same 20-30 songs I've already been listening to this month, plus a few very similar additions.
  2. The same 20-30 songs I was listening to last month.
  3. The same 20-30 songs I was listening to last year.
  4. The same 20-30 songs I was listening to in 2022, 2021, 2020, 2010s,... etc.
  5. Pop hits, which aren't relevant.

An AI could easily do other things to add variety:

  • Look at all the playlists I've created or follow and look for themes to replicate.
  • Use my listening profile to recommend tangential themes.
  • Just try more - throw some new-wave 80s hits at me, some jazz hip hop, some outlaw country, 90s grunge and alternative, etc. etc.

Why is DJ so narrow?

For me, DJ is just shuffle of my liked songs with commentary.  Its become painful, playing the same songs over and over again.  I can't force it to play new music and the inability to change genres, like and dislike songs has become a deal breaker.  I used to be a loyal DJ user but I just can't anymore.

So many good suggestions here, and surely this is so easy for Spotify to fix - but it's becoming redundant.
