Hey @adeeburgess,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome.

That's an odd behavior since the price of the Premium Student plan has not increased lately. If you're trying to use a different card or payment method, before trying again, make sure it meets the following requirements:

  • The card is registered in the same country to your Spotify account.
  • Not expired or canceled.
  • Enabled for foreign, secure online, and recurring purchases. Look for these settings in your bank’s mobile app.

Also, taking into account that the bank may add a small charge to the transaction to confirm if it's legit, we do recommend having more than enough funds to cover it if needed. Remember that this small charge will be automatically reverted to your card once the process is completed, but the time it takes depends on your bank.

If you've checked all the previous info and the issue persists, we'd recommend trying from an incognito window, a different network or even a different device making sure you're using your own account before completing the payment.

Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

It appears I misread the Spotify email about the plan increase. It didn’t happen yet but it will in December. However, I still don’t know why I’m all of a sudden having troubles using my card to pay. I haven’t changed my payment method. I have sufficient funds on the card. I tried using a private window and tried on a different device. Nothing has been working.

Appreciate the cooperation, @adeeburgess.

There can be different reasons for a failed payment and if you're still having issues even after giving it a try on another device and and private window, then there's probably something else causing this. I recommend even using a different internet connection if you've not done so until now.

Something else to keep in mind is that some payment providers can require an additional authentication when you're doing online transactions and just to be on the safe side that everything's in order with your payment method, I recommend reaching out to your bank.

If it's possible for you, you can even try paying with a different card and more info on how to update your payment details you can find here.

Keep us posted 🙂

I tried putting the payment information in again from a different network and using my data but still nothing. I don’t understand why because i haven’t changed my payment methods and it’s worked fine before. I guess I’ll have to try contacting my bank about this.
