error 408, wrong country, never prompted to give normal username

i just signed up for spotify, and i can't log in with my email address, or it tells me i am in the wrong country (despite never leaving the US, i only made this account today...). i can only log in with the long string of letters and numbers i was given as a username, and was never prompted during sign-up to make a normal username. is there any way i can change my username now, or fix the country issue so i can use my email instead? it's a little hard to type in or copy/paste those letters every time.

Welcome to the community, I'd be happy to help resolve your issues!

To start, let's confirm that you have selected the correct country. To do so, please follow these steps:

1. Log in to your account page. 
2. Click EDIT PROFILE. 
3. Scroll down to Country and make sure that it says the correct country. If not, you can select the right country from the dropdown list.
4. Click SAVE PROFILE if you were required to change your country.

If you have subscribed to Premium, make sure that your payment method was issued in your country. If you still have the wrong country error, please refer to this post.

To change your email address, follow these steps:

1. Log in to your account page.
2. Click EDIT PROFILE.
3. Under Email, enter your new email address.
   Note: If you don’t see this option, your account was created through Facebook, so you need to change the email address through your Facebook settings. 
4. Confirm your password.
5. Click SAVE PROFILE.

A confirmation email will be sent to both the old and new email address detailing the changes.

As for changing your username, it is currently not possible. The only way to do so is by creating a new account with the username of your choice. Once you have done that, you can contact Spotify support, and they can transfer everything over to your new account.
