ALexa and premade playlists

ALexa and premade playlists

I was wondering how I can just play similar artists to a band I already like. “Alexa play Leon bridges” just plays Leon bridges. Something like “play artists similar to

leon bridges”, but that doesn’t work. I’ve tried to say “play [insert known playlist] playlist on Spotify” and that works maybe 20% of the time on playlist I have followed.

Any ideas or help?

Hey Vinlo1,

To play music similar to a specific song, artist, mood or era, use of the of the following commands:

  • "Play more like this."

  • "Play songs similar to [song / artist]."

  • "Play songs similar to [mood / era] [artist]."

To play songs by a certain genre, use of of these commands:

  • "Play some [genre] music."
  • "Play some [genre name] music from Spotify."

To listen to a certain playlist use one of these commands:

  • "Listen to my [title] playlist."

  • "Shuffle my [title] playlist."

You can check out more Amazon Echo music commands here.

Noah, my results

“Play more like this” results in continuing the playlist.

“Play songs similar to bon iver” results in Alexa saying “playing bon iver on Spotify”, and it only queues up the single artist.  I’d want it to play sufjan stevens, fleet foxes, etc. (or whatever the algorithms say is similar).  The all the syntax list you gave results in the same thing.

As a side note it’s funny that I ask to play Beirut and it plays babe Ruth. Lol.

The genre net thing only kind of works.  For the most part it’s too broad for my likings. Like if I want to listen to son little similar is that soul? Blues? Rhythm and blues?  Odds are none of those genres would really that that artist.

I havent made made any playlists as I like to discover new music so I use premade ones.  It’s recognized maybe 20% of them at best,  including the ones I follow.

Hey Vinlo1,

I'm not aware of any other voice commands for similar songs, but you can check here for more music voice commands.

The only other solution I can think of is to start playing a song radio or artist radio on your phone or computer then use Spotify connect to cast the music to your Amazon Echo.

Play from phone defeats the purpose of buying an echo, I can do that now with much better speakers and free Spotify.
