I have recently tried out Google Play Music and decided to cancel my Spotify Subscription. I couldn't find a proper way to provide my feedback so I created this thread here, if this is not the correct place please move it.
I have been using Nexus 5 for a couple of years now and the battery was draining super fast in the past couple months. I just assumed it was the device's age showing up and ended buying a brand new One Plus 3T, which is amazing. I figured out that it was Spotify draining all my battery, even though I was playing in offline mode. Spotify was draining around 1% every 2 minutes (with screen off), which is completely unacceptable. Google Music drained 5% in 2 hours, in comparison.
Another major issue (for me) was that it Spotify advertised that it was compatible with Chromecast Audio but forgot to mention it is ONLY compatible if you're using your phone. I bought a Chromecast Audio and connected it to a couple of speakers at work so anyone could push a song but it doesn't work because you either waste your phone's battery or stream it from the browser with lower sound quality. Google Music (third party) client has Chromecast Audio support.
My final issue is that every other month something would happen and my entire local library files would be deleted. While this may seem like a nitpick since I just have to press a button to download it all again, I can't download several GBs on the go. I have to do it at home. It's an inconvenience. At first I thought it was a misclick, which could totally happen because it can be done with a click of a button without a single confirmation (which is kinda sad). I have noticed that it only noticed when my subscription was renewed, though not every month, so I assumed it was some sync issue that led to this. I would have to go to Settings, enabled max quality and redownload the whole thing. I was never fixed.
It's quite sad to leave Spotify because I believe it has a better service. I love the weekly playlists, I think interface is way more polished and the community is larger. Sadly I'm leaving this music service for reasons that have nothing to do with Music, they're only related to technical problems that you seem to ignore. And I've had enough.
