Exact same problem with my 2017 Q7 and Galaxy S6.  The only soultion I have been able to find so far is go into applicaion manager and find spotify.  press the "force stop".  Next time you connect, it will work.  Pain in the **bleep** to do this everytime, but it's the only thing that has worked for me so far.  From all of the recent posts on this, something is broken...

I have a scheduled Tasker now so when ASAP disconnect, it will kill spotify and it works.

Same problem here with the Galaxy S8+

We shouldnt have to clear cache and restart phones just to play music when we plug our phones in...

I am connecting a Galaxy S8 - Midnight Black - 64GB (SM-G950UZKATMB) on a T-Mobile Network to an AVH-4100NEX (1.09) in a 2007 Mercury Grand Marquis.

The problem still persists and I've just been resetting my phone before entering my car. It becomes a pain because I must type in a password after reset to access my phone.
