Android Spotify crashes after searching for specific string

Android Spotify crashes after searching for specific string

My Question or Issue

Spotify android application crashes after entering the following string into the search field:

BWAmA

Reproduced on 3 different android devices, unable to reproduce on iPhone or Desktop Apps. Crash is triggered on the last A entered when the search results appear, works for both lower and upper case. Upper case will completely crash the application without any message from the OS asking to wait, lower case infrequently causes android to show an error message saying the app crashed. The bug is case insensitive i.e. bwama also triggers the same result but is only triggered when the last char is an 'a' e.g. BWAmB doesn't cause the bug.

Steps to reproduce:

1) Open the application

2) click in the search button in the action bar

3) enter in BWAmA into the search input field

If you have any questions feel free to contact me. I'm interested to know the root cause.

Kind regards,

Jake

Hey there @JPalermo,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community.

We were able to replicate this behavior, so we've gone ahead and reported it to our internal teams.

For now, would you mind confirming the exact Spotify version currently running on the affected devices?

We'll keep you posted as soon as we have any news about this.

Hi @JPalermo,

Our teams have made some changes backstage and this issue should be fixed now. We'd suggest making sure your app is up to date so you don't miss out on it.

If anything else comes up, the Community will be here.
