Android app won't play anything (songs, podcasts etc.) , whether online or offline

Android app won't play anything (songs, podcasts etc.) , whether online or offline

Premium plan, in the UK
Device is a Google Pixel 8 pro
Android 14, last updated 5th March and device says no updates available

For the last 24hrs or so my Spotify app has been refusing to play anything whatsoever, by which I mean songs/ podcasts, and this applies to both online streaming and audio that I've downloaded locally to my device through my premium plan, and occurs whether I am online via network or WiFi or in offline mode (although obviously this shouldn't matter for songs downloaded to my device for offline play)

The app seems to think it's 'playing' something, as when you hit the green play button it switches to a pause button, implying something is playing, but no 'now playing' bar or song information appears and there is no audio

Things I've tried/ checked:
-- updated to the latest version (I update regularly anyway but you never know) literally about an hour ago, and the issue persists
-- checked that it's not a connection error; various other apps and downloads work fine as usual and I'm experiencing no dips in connection
-- have cleared cache for the app, forced a restart to the app, and restarted my device
-- also tried switching it into offline mode then back to online mode to see if that knocked anything loose, but no

Advice would be appreciated

Hey @TravisTouchdown,

Thanks for reaching out & great troubleshooting so far!

What I'd suggest as a next step is performing a complete clean reinstall of the app as shown here.
There might be a corrupted data file causing the described errors.

If the issue persists after that, check if using a new free account for testing purposes (or a friend's account) on your device would replicate the behaviour. This way we'll know if the issue is device- or account-related.

Many thanks! We'll be on the lookout for your reply 🙂
