My Question or Issue
having extremely annoying issue with Spotify. When I pick a playlist on my phone it plays fine. But when I use the headunit itself to pick a playlist the first song I choose plays fine but then it starts playing some random songs that are not even in my playlist. I don't have Shuffle or enhanced playlist turned on so wth. Any ideas?
Hey there @xgi-pgtlr_oro,
Thanks for reaching out on the Community!
Do you notice any difference if you try clearing saved cache from the app?
We also suggest double-checking if you have any tracks added to the queue. You can see and remove tracks by following the steps on this page.
If that doesn't do the trick, let us know what Spotify version you're currently running. If possible, could you try using another device to see if you experience the same thing?
Keep us posted on how it goes.
Hello, I tried to clear cache and also checked the queue which was empty. Unfortunately it still plays random songs when i choose playlist from the AA interface.
Hi @xgi-pgtlr_oro,
Thanks for the reply. Could you please provide us the following:
With this information, we’d be happy to investigate.
Keep us posted.
It's a bug and it should be easily reproducable in the following way:
1. Connect phone to car with Android Auto
2. Open Spotify on head-unit
3. Select song in playlist
4. Skip song
5. Random song plays instead of next one in playlist.
Please do us all a favor, save us all a bunch of time, and forward it to appropriate developer team instead of an infinite loop of frankly unhelpful troubleshooting steps.
Hope I was clear enough. Have a great day!
Hey @henrikx
Thank you for joining the conversation.
In order to continue investigating this with the relevant teams, we'll need the info asked by @Joan in the previous thread to have as much details as possible of the described issue. So in this case, please include in your next response the requested info.
Also, would you mind sharing the make, model, and OS version of the device connected to your car, along with the Spotify version you're currently running there?
Lastly, and if possible; could any of you record a short video where we can take a better look? You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. You can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).
We'll be on the lookout.
Same problem. Can't play a playlist in order. Tap a playlist and tap a song, any song, and the next songs played after the song tapped aren't in the playlist. Only not good workaround is tap shuffle play icon inside playlist and then tap it two more times to turn off shuffle and then maybe it plays from the playlist in order, from whatever random song it picked onward at least.
Would be nice if it worked like we would expect. Play a song in a playlist signals intent to play that playlist, or maybe put a button above shuffle play that is just regular play.

Hey @Flchris123,
Thanks for joining the thread!
Let's cover some steps in case any of them make a difference for you. To start, make sure that there aren't any pending updates for a newer Spotify version on the Android Auto and you can also reinstall the app if you've not already done so.
Additionally, you can also check and clear the queue. Let us know if the queue order is different than the playlist order if you've disabled Shuffle.
Lastly, if there's no change it'd be great if you could send us a video showing how things look like from your end. You can either attach it via the Insert Video option in the post editor or upload it to Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).
We'll be on the lookout 🙂
