Android phone not showing current song on other devices/scrobbling not working

My Question or Issue

I currently have the new UI on my phone, which I got somewhere in March.

The main issue is that music I play on my phone no longer scrobbes on last.fm. I tried every suggestion I could (toggling private session, reconnecting scrobbling in last.fm application settings etc. ) but to no avail.

What I found even more interesting is that music played on my phone does not get communicated to other devices. Only the web player (not the desktop app) detects that my account is being used by my phone, but does not show the current song/duration/time left. I can control music playing on my desktop using my phone but not the other way around. 

My Samsung Tab S2 which hasn't received the new UI works as expected.

Is this issue related to the new UI?
