My Question or Issue

Spotify crashes every few minutes when running in the background. I have tried reinstalling and have switched off Android's battery optimisation feature for spotify. It seems to only happen when actively using other apps.

Hey @gerodoggydog,

Thanks for posting in the Community.

Could you perform a clean reinstall of the app as well? Here is how to do it. Does this happen with only one account or on a different account as well?

Keep us posted.

Cheers!

Hi Dian,

Thanks for the quick response. I have just tried a clean reinstall and unfortunately the issue is persisting. It seems to happen a lot when using chrome in particular.

I am not sure what you are asking regarding another account as I only have one account. However I have tested with the same account on my old phone and the app seems to work fine, so it seems like it's could be specific to Moto g62 / Android 13.

All the best,

David

Hey there @gerodoggydog

Thanks for your reply.

If the clean reinstall didn't do the trick, there're also a few other things we can try. Can you make sure that Spotify has all necessary permissions enabled?

  1. Open your Settings menu.
  2. Scroll to the bottom to find Spotify and open the app settings.
  3. Enable everything you see.

Additionally, it's a good idea to check that Spotify has the permissions to run in the background and no cache cleaning apps are active on your mobile device.

If the issue persists, could you let us know if this started happening after a specific event such as an update either of Spotify or the OS of your phone?

We'll be waiting for your reply.

I have this (clean re-install, enabling everything) and it works but recurs after a few days.

Every clean re-install wipes the selection of download playlists and downloaded songs so it's very inconvenient...

I'm using Android 13 on Samsung Z Fold2

Hey @44ninja,

Thanks for the update!

When you have the time, would you mind checking this article out?
It's a list of settings that you can take a look at on your Samsung in regards to the background activity of apps.
(See both the Android 13 & Android 11 sections)

Tip: There are also optimization apps that may help you with this!

Keep us posted on how things go 🙂

Hi Eni,

I have tried everything here and the issue is still happening. It's hard to say when this started happening since I updated to android 13 shortly after buying this phone. It could be related to the OS update though?

Thanks

Hey @gerodoggydog,

In this case, it's best to reach out to Motorola support and go through your phone's settings with their help to make sure there isn't something restricting the Spotify app from running in the background.

Let us know how it goes.

Hi,

I have solved this issue. I first did a factory reset but I think the real solution was to uninstall all updates for android webview. You can do this by going to Settings > Apps > See all > options > Show System Apps > Android System Webview > options > uninstall updates. I think I also cleared storage and cache for good measure and did a force stop.
