App instantly pauses and won't play songs

App instantly pauses and won't play songs

I'm on a Moto X, android 4.4.2, using the latest Spotify app. Whenever I pick a song, it won't play. So I hit play and I hear sound for about 1/10th of a second and it pauses. I hit play again, it pauses again. Over, and over and over.

I've tried WiFi, 4g, offline, downloaded vs streaming songs, etc. I've also tried restarting the phone, and clearing the app's data and cache to no avail. This is extremely frustrating and I never encountered this problem until a few weeks ago.

Anyone else had this issue?

Did you install a new app or update anything a couple of weeks ago which might be causing this? If you uninstall spotify and use a file manager to delete the folders (if they exist) both on internal storage and external SD

  •  \android\data\com.spotify.music
  •  \android\data\com.spotify.mobile.android.ui

then redownload spotify music from Play, does it work any better?

Joe, thank you for the tips. I just uninstalled, and deleted anything related to Spotify via the file manager "Astro." I reinstalled and I am still having this issue.

I've had this phone since February but have only recently noticed this occurring.

Can you play mp3s using the stock music player without any issues?

I am on 4.2.2 and seeing the same issue. Didn't see it a few version ago.

@carlfarl Could you try the steps in this post.

Tried. After unistalling the app, there were no folders in those locations.

Reinstalled and see the same issues.

Just a thought, are you a Free user by any chance? If so, check the spotify streaming uality option. If it is set to "extreme", change it to "high" and see if that makes any difference.

I just bought the second gen Moto X this morning and I'm having the same issues when trying to play song. The song will play for 1/10th of a second and then pause again.

Has anyone found a solution to this issue? It's VERY frustrating!

New to the forum with the same issue, here is how I'd describe whats going on with my phone-
IF headphones are plugged in, any sound-out app (tested with Spotify, audible, antenna pod, mp3 app...) The playback randomly pauses once the screen is closed.
*have tried reflecting different motions, like putting in pocket, leg swinging, biking, but it really doesn't appear to be a motion sensor issue.
* the old plug in and out jack trick yields similar results. Sometimes it fixes it but most time s is clearly not related.

?
Thanks!

I have the same issue, music instantly pauses.  I use spotify from multiple devices and I suspect that might be it?  I've noticed the issue on the OSX client, the android client, and the iOS client.

I had this problem on my LG V10 and have found a solution:

1.  Enable Developer Mode

a.  Go to the settings menu, and scroll down to "About device." Tap it.

b.  Scroll down to where you see "Build number."

c.  Start tapping the "Build number."  Keep on tapping (7-10 times), and *poof*, you've got the developer options.

2.  Go back to the settings menu and select Developer Options menu

3.  Scroll down to the "Media" section and turn on "Use AwesomePlayer"

4.  Reboot phone

5.  Enjoy Spotify

I hope this works for you too!
