Can't change track from streering wheel controls

Over the last few days I've noticed an issue where I cant change tracks up or down through the car's streering wheel controls. This coincides with a recent update to the spotify app 24/01/2018). Volume works fine and changing tracks on other apps works as well as changing stations on the radio. I'm using a samsung galaxy s7 edge with the latest updates installed and the firmware on my apline head unit is also up to date. The bluetooth firmware is also on the latest version for the head unit. It looks like an issue that has arisen again after seeing threads posted about this before. Can somebody help?

I have the same problem after the update, annoying as **bleep**.

Solved the problem.
Delete cache on Bluetooth in app settings. Switch on Developer mode and change Bluetooth standard to 1.4 instead of 1.6. Now I get all the track information on the cars display + controls are working from the steering wheel. Seems more like a Android/Xperia problem than Spotify.
