Solved!

Can't see all my playlists on Android Auto

Finally got Android Auto in my car, but I can only see like half of my playlists?

I asked Spotify support about this and they said the Spotify api isn't
supported by Android Auto yet. I'm not exactly sure what that means in
terms of who's job it is to make that working (Google or Spotify) or
when/if that will be implemented. I would try bugging them about it and
see what answer you get.

Also there's no real way to browse any artist in spotify's library. You can only see a dozen of your artits/album (the first in alphabetical order), and if the one you want is not on the list, no way to reach it. You can try a voice command with Google, but if it doesn't understand you there is simply no way to get to the artist you want.

This is embarassing. The Carplay version lets you browse ALL artists, albums, and even songs.

Same here, please fix this. Only shows the first 10-11 playlists

I have the same issue, now that I have my new car finally with Android Auto I had to figure out, that Spotify isn't working properly and most of my playlists are missing.

I also tested with Spotify for Apple Carplay and it worked perfectly (also usage/UI is much better). Would be great if this could be fixed for Android Auto very soon!

Same here... Not showing all playlists in the car. Any news to an update?

Same problem here 😕

FYI

This is not a bug, it is by design:

http://www.google.com/design/spec-auto/system-overview/drawer.html#drawer-drawer-content-patterns

Basically more than 6 clicks isn't allowed in Google Android Auto 'Drawer' system. Any more than 6 'clicks' to get to where you want to be is deemed "unsafe" and not allowed, hence not being able to go past a certain point (greater than 6 clicks)

Yes but the specifications say it can scroll.

"A single drawer can show five items maximum, then it must scroll."

Yes, it can scroll, but if it takes three clicks to get to the list, then you can only click to scroll down three more times (because of the "no more than 6" rule, and each "scroll down" counts as a click).

The line you are quoting is the rule so that a developer can't make the text super small to fit 20 things on each scroll window.

I forgot to mention, here is a full article about this limitation:

http://www.androidcentral.com/why-one-well-intentioned-android-auto-safety-feature-may-be-moot

Thanks.  And yeah just like that article says, if I need to access something further down the list I end up unplugging my phone and listening over bluetooth  😞

I understand the intention, but they need to find a workaround. Maybe with voice where you can say something like "show more", but as it is now you have to "click" the microphone icon in order to speak commands anyway so that's still the same amount of clicking.

Maybe a keyboard for searching when the car isn't in movement could be the solution, like Google maps on Android Car 🙂

Had a pioneer head unit installed a couple of weeks ago with android auto. One of the main reasons for this was spotify compatibility.

The fact that all playlists etc can not be accessed is actually annoying me, utterly ridiculous design. Worse than that infact. Is one single person happy with this?

Can't express how idiotic this is. Fix it

Regardless of the click limitation, the software SHOULD allow me to actually access 20% of my playlists. ie an A-Z keyboard to filter down rather than preventing me scrolling through hundreds of albums to reduce the clicks.

Please fix this Spotify. I can hardly see any of my playlists! What's the point in making it Android Auto compliant if you can only see a few things?

Furthermore, one argument is that you're supposed to use voice instead. Well, voice doesn't work with Spotify playlists...so what are we supposed to do? Not use Spotify? Not use Android Auto.

Someone....at least acknowledge this is a huge issue. PLEASE!!!

Accidental double post, sorry

Based on research or some replies here, this is actually a restriction that Google forces (Android Auto restriction)

We should be complaining to Google that this doesn't make it safer (less button presses), it makes us disconnect Android Auto and use Bluetooth directly instead so we can press anything we want  😕

It is a Google restriction, but clearly this is going to be a game of "who do we point the finger at?". Both could sort it. ie Spotify need to come up with a UI that can drill down to anything in 6 clicks (definitely possible). Or Google need to reduce the restriction. However if it's forced by some kind of law then it's out of Google's hands and Spotify need to sort it.

As a minimum, all Spotify have to do is allow voice activation of self-made playlists.

I bought the Spotify premium account for my new Car with android auto to have all my albums with offline availability.

Yesterday I tested the android auto spotify app and I recognized that only the first nine Albums or artists were displayed (I have no playlists)!

This is riddiculous... spotify wrote to android auto:

With Spotify in Android Auto, you can:

  • Listen to albums, artists, songs, and playlists from Your Music.
  • Play Spotify Radio.
  • Browse new releases.

The do NOT wrote you can listen to the first 9 albums in your list, due to googles saftey issues (if I understand right).

If that is the final state, I have to cancel my Premium account.

Cheers,

Alex

This isn't Spotify's problem, it's Google's. No other music apps let you tap more than 6 times before it stops you, and Google does not have a way around that except for voice search.

The problem on Spotify's end is that you can't voice search playlists. That needs to be addressed.

Google claims this is all for safety, but Apple does it with no problems. Maybe Google thinks that Apple will get a pass because they're "Apple" but Google has to adhere to the guidelines to have their software approved.
