Cannot change music/start/pause music on Samsung Galaxy 9+ unless app is open on phone

My Question or Issue

I have not been able to change my music, start music or pause music via bluetooth unless the app is physically open on my phone.  All bluetooth devices such as headphones and even in my car.

I have a S9+ as well and have the same problem.  All other bluetooth apps work fine so it is specific to Spotify.  I am a premium subscriber.  I love Spotify.  But just as quickly you broke it, we expect you to just as quickly fix it.  Not to sound like a crybutt, but it's annoying to "fix" something that was never broke.  Please don't make me find another music stream app.
