My Question or Issue

Last 2 weeks cannot download podcast episodes. Only see wheel turning. Started with one or two podcasts episodes now it's almost all of them. Uninstall reinstall does

not fix the problem.

My downloads list says 24 episodes downloaded but when I enter it, only 4 are and sometimes they won't play at all

Hey there @Kittycatt738,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

We understand you've already tried reinstalling the app on your device, but we'd like you to try, if not done yet, a clean (more thorough) reinstall of the Spotify app. You can find out the steps to do it here. By doing that, the app can be up-to-date, and you can make sure some store damaged cache is not leading to this behavior.

On another note, make sure the internet connection you're using is stable and that you have enough memory available on your device for the app to stored the content.

If the above doesn't do the trick, then it'll be really helpful if you could send us the following info:

  • The exact Spotify version you're running.
  • Does this happen over WiFi? 3G/4G? Both? Do you notice any difference if you switch the internet connection you're using?
  • Does this happen if you try to download playlists which only contain music?
  • Does this happen if you open your account on a different mobile device? You can ask for the phone of a relative or a friend to open your account  there and check.

Keep us in the loop!

The problem is still occuring even after complete un and reinstall.

The exact Spotify version you're running.
8.9.84.594

Does this happen over WiFi? 3G/4G? Both?
Both

Do you notice any difference if you switch the internet connection you're
using?
No

Does this happen if you try to download playlists which only contain
music?
Noticed only with podcasts but I do not listen to music as extensively so I
cannot 100% rule it out

Does this happen if you open your account on a different mobile device?
It happens on multiple android devices I am logged in on

You can ask for the phone of a relative or a friend to open your account
there and check.
Issue remains when logged in on other devices.

Hi @Kittycatt738,

Thanks for the reply!

Have you restarted your phone recently? If not, I'd recommend doing so as it may help here. If you're using a VPN, try disabling it temporarily as well.

In case the issue persists, it might be related to your account. Could you ask someone who uses Spotify to log in to their account on your device to see if they'd be able to download content?

Let us know how it goes.

Hi
Yes I have tried turning my phone on and off again, that is the first port
of call for any tech issue...
I have already stated my troubleshooting attempts which also included
clearing cache, all data, uninstall, reinstall, trying on different devices
etc...The problem persists regardless of platform, account or device.
Looking at other complaints about this issue on the forum from about 6
months ago, this is not an isolated issue relating to a specific type of
device or accounts.
Is this a server issue on Spotify's end or related to other servers used to
supply media to Spotify? Or even a jurisdictional issue? If so, this needs
to be communicated to users immediately.

Can you please offer a resolution to this issue as soon as possible for the
sake of your content creators as well.
Many thanks

Thanks for the reply @Kittycatt738.

The sporadic nature of this issue makes it difficult to pinpoint its exact root cause, but in most cases dependent on the specific setup.

Since you mentioned this occurs on multiple devices, this behavior might be related to your network. You can try switching the network frequency to 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz. Something else that comes to mind is using a different DNS by following the steps here.

In case the issue persists, your offline devices might have corrupted cache. It's worth reaching out to the folks over at Customer Support who can clear the data from their end to see if that helps.

Cheers 🤘
