My Question or Issue

Spotify for Android is now telling me that Chromecast connection is for available for Premium users only. Since when? Is someone at Spotify actively trying to drive away (free) users? Because that's a good way to do it. Can I get an explanation?

Hey @jeffhpc1, welcome to the community.

Hope you’re doing great!

Sorry to hear you’re having issues playing on Chromecast, but no worries - I’ll be happy to help.

If you’re having trouble with Spotify and your Chromecast device, check:

  • The device you're playing from is connected to the same WiFi network as your Chromecast.
  • Your Chromecast device is fully up-to-date.
  • You have the latest version of Spotify installed.

Note: It’s not possible to play local files with Chromecast.

If everything’s up-to-date and on the same WiFi, these steps should help:

  • Restart Spotify.
  • Close any other apps you’re not using.
  • Restart your Chromecast app.
  • Restart your devices.
  • Restart your WiFi connection.
  • If possible, try a different WiFi connection.

For more Chromecast troubleshooting tips, you can visit Google’s Help Centre.

You can also check @SpotifyStatus for any system issues.

I hope this helps.
