Connecting a tablet to an amplifier

Connecting a tablet to an amplifier

As a possible alternative to a Philips Streamium, Squeezebox or other dedicated piece of hardware such as Sonos, I am thinking about connecting a Android Tablet to my amplifier. It would run Spotify, a Internet radio app  or a DLNA player app.

Question how to connect a Android tablet to an amplifier?

Maybe Bluetooth?

Are there tablets that allow digital out (coax or fiber)?

USB?

I haven't played about too much with Android device to my amplifier, but I'm sure there's some solutions for you.

Obviously the simplest would be a RCA-to-Jack cable. USB might be supported on some amps but I'd need to do some testing first - Although iOS devices have worked just fine so I don't see why not.

I would prefer loos-less connections.

Ideally I would use a digital connection (coax, fibre, usb, hdmi) as I have a much better digital/analog converter in the amplifier than what one can find on a Tablet.

I believe that the hdmi connection could also be used to just transport the sound to the amplifier but I have never tried that.

Generally HDMI is both audio and visual, so you might need to play around to get that working with just audio. Interesting idea though... let us know if you try that!
