My Question or Issue

My phone tracks apps running in the background without my permission, so I can close any that I haven't asked to run & stop them wasting battery. I only use Spotify in the mornings and sometimes in the evenings, yet all day I get these notifications seemingly at random that the app decided to run & I have to force stop each time. This will happen 15+ times a day. Not connected to Wi-Fi, not listening to music, not even screen on and Spotify decides to run. Actually considering an automatic app killer to stop this BS.

Hey @Impulsive,

Sorry to hear you're having issues with the Spotify app!

Spotify on Android momentarily checks in with servers to check whether music is playing on another device, and if it is then it'll show the media controls (allowing you to control your music from your phone! Cool right?). This feature should have a negligable affect on battery life and data usage.

In summary, what you're whitnessing is standard behaviour for the app. If you feel Spotify should change this behaviour, then I request that you make a post over on the Ideas community board, where it can be voted on by the community.

Hope this helps!

Ah thanks for the explanation, that makes sense. I literally use the Spotify app on my phone & on odd occasions on my Xbox One - any built in way to disable all the other **bleep**? I just want it to stream music when I'm playing it, everything else is useless to me.

Hey @Impulsive,

Sorry to say, there is no way to disable this stuff. But that's fine, if you think it should be added in future updates, feel free to post to the Ideas board and the community will be able to vote for the feature.

Hope you have a lovely day!
