Do offline playlists store duplicates from other playlists?

Solved!

Do offline playlists store duplicates from other playlists?

Question is in title really but ill expand.

Say i have 2 playlists

  • Playlist 1

Pop song

Rock song

  • Playlist 2

Country song

Rap song

OK still with me?

Now I store both of those offline OK?

Now if i make a new playlist, containing a song from EACH playlist like so

  • Playlist 3

Country song

Rock song

I now store this playlist offline; Does spotify reference the originally downloaded files, or will it download those 2 again?

Thanks!

I've just tried this myself and can confirm that doing this won't redownload the files again.

Since each track has a corresponding URI, adding a track to an offline playlist that has already been downloaded in another playlist won't need to downloaded again. By checking the URI Spotify will tell it's been downloaded elsewhere already.

GIve it a go for yourself to check it out.
