Download to SD-card

Download to SD-card

Heya folks!

I am currently using an Android phone (Huawei Honor 8 Lite, don't know if that info is important or not...) and my problem is that the Spotify app doesn't recognize my Sd-Card and therefore will not display the option to chose where to store your downloaded playlists. I had chosen to download to Sd-card before the latest spotify update, but since the update spotify had for some unknown reason undownloaded all my downloaded playlist and lost contact with the Sd-card.

To clarify: my Sd-card is still correctly inserted into the phone and recognized (is fully operable) by the phone and all other apps except for Spotify.

I do not have much internal storage space on my phome and really need spotify to download my playlists to the Sd-card. Does anyone know of a way to get spotify to recognize my Sd-card, and thereby let me choose where to store my downloaded songs, again?

I've tried reinstalling spotify, ejecting and reinsterting my sd-card, as well as restarted my phone. Nothing seems to be working. Please help!

Thank you!

Your English is a lot better than many native speakers 🙂

Try this:

  1. Back up the data on your SD card then format it in the phone.
  2. Remove the SD card and reinstall spotify, following these steps.
  3. Pop the SD card back in and check if the option to locate the cache on the SD card has reappeared in spotify's settings.

Hello,

same problem here...

I reinstalled already, but still no solution.

I can copy the app itself to the SD but the downloaded playlist are still on the intern storage...

Mobile: Sony Xperia XZ,

microSD: San Disk Ultra 64GB

Greetings from Germany

The app isn't designed to run from an SD card. It needs to run from internal storage or won't perform correctly. How did you move it there anyway?

Hey! Think I have the solution, had this problem a while ago. Spotify only allows you to store music on SD cards that are formatted as internal, you can do this by going to:

settings app<storage<SD card name<three dots at top right<storage settings<format as internal

This will, however, delete all data currently on the SD card and will be treated as internal storage so it's not recommended to be removed after that point. Hope this helps!

Edit: After that you will need to change the default storage location through Spotify's settings in the app

(just copied my response to the original question, hope it helps!)

First picture:

The option where i can choose between intern and SD for the Spotify app, just the app.

2nd pic:

I cant see an "Format as internal" option there.. 😕

3rd pic:

Clicking on the option "Formatieren" (Format) will only format as mobile storage..

Well maybe i will never get the comfort to save my music on SD...

Oh, incase it's my explanation at fault here's where I got the solution from; https://fossbytes.com/android-sd-card-internal-storage-adoptable-storage/

In the article it says you need to have Android 6.0 to be able to format it. Is your phone running on 6.0? (You can check by going to about phone in the settings app)

Well right now i am using 7.1.1 😯

Hey @user-removed that's the exact opposite of the truth. Spotify will not see an SD card formatted as internal and the option to select the SD card as storage location will not appear. Further information is in this post but, to be clear, the SD card MUST be formatted as portable storage for use with spotify.

@DeSpTG, just ignore him. He's misinformed.

Well, however i have still now clue how to fix this..

Seems to be an unsolvable miracle

I've got it working!!!!!!

I reformatted my Samsung SD card as INTERNAL STORAGE on my Ellipsis tablet running Android 7.0

Spotify is now automatically downloading songs onto the SD card, with no choice of where to download within Spotify settings. It's AUTOMATIC!!!

NOTE: My tablet's SD card shows ZERO data having been downloaded onto the SD card's "Audio" folder, while the "Other" folder is getting bigger. I can't find one of its folders labeled "Spotify", so it's mixed in there somewhere as a secret proprietary folder designed to hook us all into a) not messing with things, and b) being stuck with Spotify forever.

I've verified it's working by putting my tablet into Airplane mode. From there I can only play songs listed as having been downloaded. SUCCESS!!!!!

Shame on Spotify for not having IT discover this for us. Things are running for me; I with the same for all unfortunates landing on this discussion....
