Extreme spike in data usage

Extreme spike in data usage

Hi Spotify users,

This month, the data usage of my spotify app spiked enormously. The graphs show a spike of 5+ gb in just a couple of days. I came up with two possible explanations.

I cleared the cache somewhere this month. Perhaps the app stored a lot of my favorite music in the cache data, and when I listened to music that was previously cached, it had to download that music again, causing a spike.

I listen to music in extreme quality. I have done that for months, but perhaps Spotify changed something regarding the audio quality?

Please see the attachment for the graph. I added some approximated trendlines to emphasize the fact that the spike was enormous, and also that data usage has almost returned to 'pre-spike' level.

Can anyone help me find the explanation for this ridiculous spike in data usage?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Martijn

When you clear the cache, you don't only remove all cached music but also remove any downloads. If you had playlists set to "Download" they would have all downloaded again as soon as there was an internet connection.
