How to Close Spotify

My Question or Issue

So when I’m using Spotify, and my phone locks, I attempt to close Spotify by unlocking my phone, swiping down from the home screen, where I can see the Spotify mini player in the notifications area. I can only swipe to close this when the music is paused and not playing.

Any reason why as I find it inconvenient?
