I can't find my chromecast in either the desktop app or the android app

My Question or Issue

 I can't find my chromecast when I'm playing something on my phone or the desktop app. I have a Google Home, and when I tell it to play something, it plays fine, and then I can control it through there, but using the "connect to a device option" it isn't showing up at all. Is this a known issue? I've reset my phone, reset the chromecast, logged out of/in to the Home app and Spotify, reinstalled both apps, and still nothing. Am I just missing a step?
