My Question or Issue

I made a playlist on my computer using local files.  I want to play it on my phone. The playlist shows up but all the songs are grayed out. When I click the download button in the phone playlist, circled exclamation marks appear by all the songs but nothing happens.

I am also having the same issue with a moto g. The Android spotify app does not have the 'Local Files' option that the Apple OS has. The local files play on my computer. LF show up on my phone but are 'grey' and when the playlist is downloaded, circled exclamation marks appear next to the song.  I have a premium account.

I have tried multiple times the solutions listed in the above post. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app, I have changed the firewall settings on my computer, I have tried using a different computer, I have deleted the local files and used a new directory.

What is the solution for android users.

Hi @livewell96,

Thank you for posting on the Community, and welcome!

You mentioned you reinstalled the app, could you make sure you performed a clean reinstall? Also, instead of downloading the app from our website, do it from the Microsoft Store.

Lastly, please temporarily disable your Firewall and reset the PC and mobile app.

Let us know how this goes.

I preformed a clean re-install of the spotify app on my mobile device and tried to download/sync the playlist with all firewalls turned off.

Hey @livewell96,

Thank you for your swift reply!

How did everything go after following these steps, were you able to synchronize your Local Files?

Keep us posted.

The songs are still able to be played from my mobile device. Just to be clear, my phone and computer are "synched". The songs are showing up on my phone, but they are grey and can not be played.

Hi, @livewell96,

Thanks for keeping us in the loop.

Keep in mind that you can only import local files obtained from official sources. If that's the case, try changing both your phone and PC to a different internet network.

Also, please delete Windows hosts file for Spotify entries. You'll find here all necessary steps.

We'll be on the lookout.

I was able to solve the problem by using a different computer, on the same wifi network, and with my mobile device. The problem seems to be my PC.  Is there any troubleshooting that I can do now that I know the PC seems to be the problem?

Hey @livewell96,

Thank you for sending over that info.

It seems like the original PC may be having connectivity issues.

In this case, we suggest you reset your network settings:

  1. Open Windows settings.
  2. Click on Network & Internet, then go to the Status tab.
  3. Scroll down until you see Network Reset, click on it, follow the steps and reset your PC.

Also, check that Windows shows your network as private and not public.

Hope this helps!
