Maximum Devices Reached after 1?

Solved!

Maximum Devices Reached after 1?

My phone has now twice removed all downloaded songs claiming I've reached my maximum amount of devices.

The first time I actually did hit a limit because of a loaner phone I was trying to use for a week. I removed all devices and started fresh. I now only have 1 device saved to my account for offline playback however I just received a prompt that I've hit my maximum limit of 3 devices so my data would be cleared.

Why does it think I have 3 devices when I only have 1? I can't keep downloading 2000 songs every 2 days. What can I do to stop this? I've gone through all the troubleshooting options and they lead me to do what I've already done and the situation is not improving.

Does this page show the same device multiple times? If so, remove the two oldest instances and keep an eye on the page. Spotify seems to identify your phone as a new device in various circumstances such as;

  • unmounting/removing and remounting/reinserting the SD card (if spotify cache is stored there)
  • Major OS updates
  • connecting mobile via USB to a PC to transfer files
