My Question or Issue

So I've noticed if I have Bluetooth headphones connected and get in my car, the car Bluetooth takes over, as expected. However, if I get out of the car, the phone, despite it thinking it's playing via the headphones it's actually using the phone speaker, and the only way to change it is by using the Spotify widget which is still using the phone speaker on the home lock screen.

How frequently does the issue occur? And what are the steps to reproduce the symptom? Play music in the car Bluetooth whilst also having Bluetooth headphones connected. Get out of the car and then Bluetooth settings say that you are playing via the Bluetooth headphones but in fact it's playing out of the phone. The only way to change this is to change it in the lock screen Spotify widget which is still selecting the phone as an output.

Google are saying it's not them and it's not reproducable (somehow), please assist.

Hey @Magicmerly,

Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community.

As a next step, could you please try reproducing the issue with a different Bluetooth device connected instead of the car stereo or the headphones? Also, is there any difference in what appears as the current playing device between the widget and the app?

Keep us posted.

Hi there, I only have the car or various headphones to test with where I
will switch bluetooth devices.

and yes the bluetooth settings show that they're playing to the headphones
when in fact the sound is coming out of the phone as seen by the spotify
widget.

Not sure if this is an android or a spotify problem but it's only started
with Android 13 on my google pixel 7 pro.

Hey @Magicmerly,

Thanks for getting back to us with this info.

Does the same happen when you switch between different headphone sets? Can you please try running a clean reinstall of the app as described here and let us know the result?

Looking forward to your reply.

Hey, I'm having the same problem. I'm using a Google Pixel 7. Spotify says I've been connected to my Bluetooth headphones. The Google pixel also says it's connected. But the audio keeps coming out of my phone speaker. Is there any way you guys can fix this bug at Spotify? I reinstalled the application, and it wasn't a solution.
