My Question or Issue

I'm using two Denon certified Spotify Connect devices. When switching the playback device from one to the other while in shuffle mode, the queue gets mixed up again and the former history of the queue on the first device gets lost. Result: songs already heard will be played again.

I posted this issue in the relevant ongoing issues topic (Queue changes after switching device with Spotify Connect), but the moderator closed the issue nevertheless. Very annoying because this is a serious shortcoming for Spotify Connect devices and still not solved after more than 2 years!

Hey @Nyrobee,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome.

The Ongoing issue you mentioned was closed as Fixed since the relevant team has already confirmed it. If after the update you're still having this issue, it could be related to some damaged cache stored on your device from the previous version.

In this case, we'd recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app by following the steps in this article on all devices.

Also, double check that you don't have the "repeat" button activated OscarDC_3-1667838902264.png. If so, turn it off OscarDC_2-1667838855743.pngon all devices and try again.

Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

Sorry to see this standard reaction. Of course I did a clean install. Repeat is off. After that I started a playlist in shuffle mode on Android device, switched to Spotify Connect devices (queue stays the same) but after switching back to Android device the queue gets shuffled again so history of played songs is lost.

Same is happening when switching between Connect devices. So, tech team hasn't tested there 'solution' very good.

Just because something says it is fixed doesn't make it true. I too have tried a clean reinstall today - a real pain as I have a lot of local files to download again - and still the queue reshuffles when changing devices. It also often does this when just connecting to a different Bluetooth device but still playing from the same phone.

Hey @Bruxism,

Thank you for joining the conversation and for the info you shared.

We'll pass this new info on to the relevant teams to continue investigating the case. To do this, include in your next response the make, model and OS version of the affected devices, along with the Spotify version you're currently running.

Also, let us know if it happens with all the playlists or just one of them to have a better look at the issue.

We'll be on the lookout.

Hi @OscarDC,

I'm using a OnePlus 8 Pro IN2023 with Android 13. Spotify Premium version 8.7.92.251.

This behaviour happens (though not always) when changing device and (less often) when changing Bluetooth connection.

Devices I have connected to with the same problem include Google Home speaker, NowTV stick, Denon AV receiver, Sony AV receiver and Sky Q box.

It seems to be a problem with any playlist.

I hope you can help.

Hey there @Bruxism,

Thanks for sending us this info.

Would you mind logging in to your account on a different device to check if the issue persists?

On another note, we suggest that you log out and then log back in twice in a row on your phone. This will trigger a sync between your account and device.

Let us know how it goes.

Hi @Eni,

I have tried all your suggestions with the same result: a randomised playlist always reshuffles when changing device back to 'This phone'.

Hi there @Bruxism,

Thanks for the reply.

We've passed on the info about this issue to the right folks at Spotify , who'll look into it further.

We can't say for sure when this will be resolved, so keep your app up to date not to miss any fix deployed in one of the upcoming updates.

Cheers.

Hi @Alex,

Thanks the reply. I will be patient ☺️

I have Spotify on 2 devices, Android and Arch Linux. When I play on Linux and I want to switch to Android, it would reset the queue and start over. Let's say I have 10 songs in a queue, I'm currently playing 5th song, then I connect to Android, it would play that song then continue starting over with 1st song and skipping 5th song. However, if I connect from Android to Arch, this doesn't happen.
