Hi there @Acheiman,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community and welcome!

It seems your post is incomplete. Could you share a more detailed description of the situation? Additionally, let us know if this happens all the time and if you've tried any troubleshooting steps to fix it (e.g., a reinstallation, a soft reset, or a different device).

We'll keep an eye out for your reply!

I was trying to post a question from my phone, but it wasn't giving me enough room to even read my question. I hit enter and apparently it posted the incomplete question. Do I have to post from a computer? This response is easy to do?

My question was about why my spotify automatically connects to my phone when I'm playing music through roku on spotify. I'd like to keep my phone spotify separate from my roku spotify.

Hi there @Acheiman,

Thanks for your reply and for giving us more details about the situation.

When playing Spotify on your Roku, you have the option to control the music from your phone with Spotify Connect, and everything that plays on the Roku will show on Spotify on your phone (or any other device where your Spotify account is open) as well because you can only play music with your account from one device at a time. However, you should be able to close the Spotify app on your phone and control Spotify just from your Roku without any issues.

When playing on your Roku and opening the app on your phone, it should look like this (but it will say Roku instead of Web Player), and that's normal:

Nevertheless, maybe I don't quite understand the situation yet, so to give you a more accurate response, would you mind sending us a video recording of this behavior? You can attach it in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public, so we can visualize it.

We'll be here.

I don't think sending a video would help.

You said this

"When playing on your Roku and opening the app on your phone, it should look like this (but it will say Roku instead of Web Player), and that's normal:"

Where does it say "web player" or "roku"?

My Question is why is my phone connecting when I'm just trying to play spotify from roku. I don't want it to pop up on my phone when I open spotify in roku. While I'm listening to spotify on roku I'm also doing stuff on my phone, but every time I play a video on my phone, it over rides spotify. I want spotify to keep playing on my TV, not switch to my video audio.

Hey there @Acheiman

Thanks for getting back to us.

You can see "Web player" in the Now playing bar in @Susan_GP's screenshot which indicates that the music is currently playing from the web player, but it gives you the option to control the playback from your phone.

Also, you can see it in the Now playing view:

If the app is open or running in the background on your phone, it's expected that it gives you the option to control the playback from there. You can read more about the Connect feature in the link @Susan_GP sent above.

If you don't want this to happen, you can close the app on your phone so you can control it from your TV directly.

Hope this clears things up. If you need a hand with anything else, the Community is here for you.
