Using the latest Spotify Android app (1.0.0970.2353) and the search function works about 1 in 10 times. When it fails, I receive the 'Oops Something went wrong' error. I have tried everything from uninstalling/reinstalling and rebooting my device with no luck. I have seen several posts with similar issues but nothing within the past year.
Help!

Same issues here - a couple recent posts that note current "oops" issues are listed below. These issues don't appear to affect everyone but the Spotify recommended 'fix' seems to be to remove data, remove devices, uninstall and re-install the app and replace an SD card if you're using external storage. Tried all of those...
Another option that's just as effective is to hop up and down on your left foot while twirling your phone in your outstretched right hand while chanting "Go Spotify, Go!" three times...
Seriously, it's just poorly written buggy software and I wish they'd concentrate on fixing foundational stuff like this before adding new features. I'm guessing we'll get a video option with the next release that we won't be able to use either. One poster noted that downloading to version 3.8.0.800 fixed their issues. Since my daughter has 3.7.something with the same phone I have and doesn't have any of these issues a downgrade to something more stable is really your best option. I'm doing that this weekend.
Too add to this - it appears the behaviour can sometimes be resolved by restarting the app. After an app restart the search functionality will work for the first few attempts, then stop working. Other features that will not work are Radio or Artist/Album lookup from the 'Playing' screen. Seems to fail to connect.
This behaviour is common amongst multiple different wifi networks and is the same over mobile. I've also uninstalled/reinstalled the app along with deleting all of the app data.

I appreciate the guidance and suggestion for hopping up and down on my left foot, hadnt tried that one yet. 😉
In all honesty, I have really explored every avenue except for downgrading the app.
So today I did some extensive searching and found this version:
http://www.apk4fun.com/apk/9252/
I have been using it for a couple of hours now and its certainly a lot more responsive then the latest version and I have yet to experience any of the hardships mentioned above.
Thanks again for the suggestion to upgrade by downgrading as it really was the only thing I hadn't tried.
Good luck with your issues!
Glad it worked for you. I tried loading the same old version as you did and it seemed to work for me too although CPU usage was typically up around 6% and it clobbered my battery life. In the process of finding a better version i found last week's post from Spotify noting that they have no plans to raise the offline track limit above 3,333 per device.Seems i missed this limitation when i signed up (I thought it was 10,000 tracks) so between that and the repeated fiddling with a buggy app over the past month I've signed up for Deezer instead. Too bad as i prefer Spotify's desktop app over Deezer's web interface and i also think that as a service they do a better job at curation. Their phone app works though and I'm well on my way to exceeding 3,333 tracks after 1 day.
Cheers
