My Question or Issue

After not using Spotify for a while (say 4 or 5 hours), when I open the app, and search for a song, and press the song to play it, the default mode is shuffle. Even if I have searched for an album, or it's opened the album I was last listening to.

I can then load up the full screen player mode, and toggle shuffle off (bottom left icon) and then for the next X hours of usage, shuffle mode is off. Then if I stop using Spotify for a few hours, and return to it, and repeat the steps above, shuffle mode will be enabled again.

To be clear, I am not pressing the enormous green Shuffle Play button, and this only happens after several hours not using the app and then opening it again. I haven't worked out exactly how many hours are required yet, but it definitely happens on first use every day.

Thanks for the reply, I completely forgot I had posted this.

Turns out after more googling and experimenting with my phone, it was caused by using Spotify in conjunction with the default Android Alarm clock app. When the alam clock plays something from a Spotify playlist, it always switches on shuffle mode. There doesn't appear to be a way to turn the shuffle option off.

I have stopped using the alarm clock with Spotify and the shuffle problem has gone away.

So nothing wrong with Spotify in the end, sorry about that, but it was driving me insane as I couldn't figure it out!

Thanks

Hey there @taekwondoalex,

Thanks for getting in touch with us. This sounds odd and we'll do our best to help you out.

You can start off by restarting your phone. Then you can log out and log back in again.

If that doesn't help, you can give these steps a go and run a clean reinstall. By doing that you can make sure the app is up-to-date and the cache is not causing this issue.

If you use an SD card, you can check the steps below and try reinstalling the app without it.

Uninstall the app > Turn off the phone > Remove the SD card > Turn the phone back on and install Spotify

Does the issue occur on another device? That way we can see if it's a device-related issue.

Keep us in the loop! If you have questions, you know where to find us.
