My Question or Issue

So I'm having the weirdest issue with Spotify on my phone. Everything used to work perfectly fine up until a few days ago, when I noticed that some tracks in my downloaded playlists didn't play right. I'm talking completely distorted/jumbled/glitchy audio. It's hard to explain but basically it seems like the files got corrupted. So I tried everything from clearing the cache to reinstalling the app, nothing changed. Every time I download them again, it's the same story. And it's always the same specific songs.

So I did some digging in my phone's files and found all the songs that didn't work in the LocalSync folder (full path in attached screenshot). Weird thing is, if I try to play those on my computer, they play just fine. I also tried deleting those specifically but when I download them again it's still the same jumbled up mess on spotify

I really don't know what's happening here, I've never seen any thing like this.. I hope someone here knows how to fix this

Edit: as for the first screenshot, the glitching songs are the ones that don't have the "downloaded" arrow next to them even though they clearly are downloaded. But I do feel like they always take a lot less time to download than the rest so maybe there's something to this

Hey and welcome to the Spotify community 🙂

Please reboot your phone in safe mode to ensure no other application is responsible for the destroyed files. This will temporarily disable all third-party applications unless you explicitly launched them and after restart all works like it did before. How to do this depends on your device, please first try to long press on "Shutdown" and "Restart" in the power menu. If this won't work to boot in safe mode, feel free to reply. Please tell me if this also happens after opening Spotify and downloading songs in safe mode.

Please also try to update your application to the latest available version.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Same with me, I've noticed the following on my side:

  • It only occurs with songs that I've downloaded from local file share (e.g. songs from my computer added into my playlist and then played on phone)
  • It only occurs on the phone app while it plays perfectly on PC.
  • Restarting, reinstalling, clearing cache, redownloading these songs, etc. does nothing and I can repeat bug this every time with 100% consistency.
  • It's not just playing back faster, it's definitely distorting or muddling the playback up in someway, however the overral playtime turns out to be about half the length, even though the playhead only reaches halfway through the song's normal duration before reaching the end and skipping to the next song

I only noticed it starting a few days to a week ago. Pretty recent, probably a bug with a recent update I didnt notice, with auto update bring turned on, on my phone.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one at least. I didn't realize it at first but Joel is correct, it's only local files that don't work. That is, local files that I added to playlists or files that spotify linked with song I added to my library (I deleted those from my pc and now they play just fine).

I tried booting in safe mode but I don't know how to load the app. From what I understand of safe mode, I can't boot up any third-party apps at all

Excuse me, I have not mentioned, that on some device you can't at all. If it is possible, you'll just have to open it as usual, even though the icon may appear greyed out.

Perhaps another one with the problem can provide this information?

Another development I forgot to mention is that the files aren't actually corrupted, if I browse my files on my phone and play them with another music player they work just fine. It seems to be a playback issue on local files

Yes only local files

If you want to play local files you must downgrade

Link to older version: http://download.spotify.com/android/SpotifyAndroid.apk

1.Uninstall Spotify

2.Downlaod apk

3.Install apk

4.Disable automatic updates for spotify

Warning:You must redownlaod all song.

Yeah that seems to work so it's almost definitely linked to the most recent update. Hoping to see it fixed in the next one

When does this bug get fixed?

Current version still has this

After one year this bug is still in the current version.

I can't belive this. Is this bug so hard to fix?

I understand that this bug has not the highest priority, but after more than a year?
