Spotify Crashes Android SystemUI

Spotify Crashes Android SystemUI

Since last weekend (march 9, 2024) I've been unable tonuse the app properly. If I put on a song my phone flickers between a black screen and the background image, as if locking and unlocking the phone on its own until one of these two outcomes:

1) the phone is forced into Safemode System UI until I restart

2) I force restart the phone

I have tried: deleting cache, force close it, uninstall, give all permissions, but nothing works in my phone. If I try from my personal conputer it works perfectly, so it has to be related to mobile app and/or Android. What's going? The mobile app is practically unusable. Also, this only happens with Spotify, some mobile games I have, Facebook, or Youtube work perfectly fine without issues.

Hello everyone,

Apologies for the radio silence from our end.

We'd like to report the issue to our tech team as soon as possible, but for this we'll need some more details, so please let us know the following:

  • Does it only happen when in a Jam or when using Spotify Connect (i.e. when you're using the device as a remote control and not playing through it directly)?
  • Is it the same behavior shown in the Reddit post shared by @XaviRP? If not, and you have the option to record it with another device, please send over a short video or a detailed description of what happens on your end.
  • If you're currently using a different version of the app or your phone's OS than the one you've shared previously, send that as well as it will help the team in their investigation.

Appreciate your patience and sorry again for not replying sooner! We'll be on the lookout for your replies.

Hey folks,

Thanks for your replies and the info you've provided.

Can you all please confirm you've made sure that the Spotify app is set as an exception in any battery- or memory-optimizing services on your device?

Cheers,

Hi there,

I don't have any app like that installed.

I double checked every system app or option that can interfere somehow or put to sleep Spotify.

I even added Spotify to exception lists to be  never be put on sleep or optimized. That's the case of Samsung battery guardian.

This is becoming a big problem. Every now and then the phone becomes unresponsive. If I am lucky to notice that Spotify is crashing (artwork disappear) I force stop it from the settings and prevent the UI to crash.

Any help will be much appreciated

Same problem here, just starting to experience it.
Phone: Poco F5
OS: HyperOS 1.0.4.0 (Android 14)
Spotify version: 8.9.48.575

Temporary fix: use an older version, I'm using 8.9.16.593 (like someone already suggested here).
Devs, please fix this issue because this is unacceptable. Especially for the prices you charge for Premium these days (and keep increasing it as well)
