Spotify Crashing on android phones when using car controls

Spotify Crashing on android phones when using car controls

Device

Samsung A40, Oneplus 7

Spotify Crashes every time I try to use my car controls. Worked perfectly for the last year then in the last month or 2 it crashes anytime I try to change song. I have tried clearing the cache and data, reinstalling the app, restarting my phone, forgetting devices on both phones and in the car, using different Spotify accounts checking battery settings and using different combinations of all the Spotify settings and it wont work on any phone I have tried. I am running the most recent version of Spotify and I am not in any beta or alpha versions of the app.

Both phones are on version 8.5.87.921

My tablet is on an older version 8.5.86.854 and works perfectly

Is there a fix for this or is it possible to go back to an older version of Spotify ?

Hey @steiwe,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community.

We appreciate you describing your situation so well and the extensive troubleshooting you've done so far. Note however, that we've recently rolled out a new version for the Android app that introduces a series of improvements and fixes. We recommend performing a clean reinstall as this ensures that your app is on the most current version, plus has the added advantage that if there are any faulty installation files, they get removed and built anew from the ground up. You can find out how to perform a clean reinstall here. Give your device a quick restart as well before you open the newly installed app.

It's also a good idea to check for any updates for your car's infotainment system.  If this doesn't fix things, could you share the Android versions on your phones, the Spotify version you see on them at your end, as well as the make, model and OS version of your cars infotainment system? We'll be more than happy to then take a closer look.

Keep us posted, we'll be on the lookout for your post.
