Spotify app killing play store downloads

Spotify app killing play store downloads

Country: Canada

Samsung Galaxy S10, running Android 10 on the November security patch

For the past couple months, Spotify is killing my Play store downloads. As long as Spotify is installed, 90% of the time I go to download apps, they will get stuck in a "pending" or "downloading" state. Force stopping Spotify will allow the apps to download after waiting a few minutes. I factory reset again last night and everything was working perfectly all day. I downloaded Spotify this evening, and an hour later, Play store downloads were stalling again. As soon as I uninstalled Spotify, they immediately downloaded. This is a major issue and I've been back and forth with Spotify support multiple times and have gotten little to no help. I love Spotify, and don't want to leave, but my patience is nearly gone.

Really hoping someone can help me out here.

Thanks

Hey everyone,

Thanks for your patience while we looked into this.

We've gotten word from the relevant team that such issues can be caused by a faulty Bluetooth connection, which leads to unexpected behavior with some apps. We recommend that you follow these steps and see if the issue gets resolved:

  1. Turn Bluetooth off completely on the phone for a period of say 24 hours.
  2. Unpair/ Forget every Bluetooth device in the list on your smartphone. You can use this Google guide.

Keep us posted if this does the trick. We’ll keep an eye out for your replies.

Thanks for getting back to us. I'm fairly certain this isn't a Bluetooth issue, as I've regularly had Bluetooth off for several hours, sometimes days at a time. I will give it a shot though. I've deleted all paired devices, turned off Bluetooth, and reinstalled Spotify. I will get back to you in 24 hours.

Thanks again,

Josh

Hey @joshw111,

Thanks for your reply and for the info.

Let's wait the 24 hours now that you've followed the other steps to see if that makes the difference.

We'll be looking out for your reply.

Sorry, I didn't get a chance to reply yesterday. I removed all paired devices in bluetooth settings, turned bluetooth off and have been testing downloads every 2-3 hours. There was only one instance where I was able to replicate the issue, where the download was stuck in "pending", but cancelling and starting the download again immediately fixed it. So that may have just been a networking problem at the time.

What should be my next course of action? Turn bluetooth back on and see what happens? I can't really just leave bluetooth off permanently.

Thanks.

Hey @joshw111,

Thanks for keeping us posted 🙂

Could you now try turning on Bluetooth and then adding the devices back one by one over a period of time?

If this doesn’t work, we'd suggest you also try completely shutting all Bluetooth devices nearby down and then turning them back on one by one over a period of time. Are there any  changes?

Let us know how it goes. We'll be right here if you have any further questions.

So far I've turned bluetooth on and paired up my car. I'll continue to test over the next few days, adding devices as I go, and checking to see if downloads are still functioning. Crazy how after all this time it just seems to have been my bluetooth. Even after all the factory resets I did... Just doesn't add up. Did they give any details on what about bluetooth exactly causes this behavior?

Thanks again!

Hi @joshw111

Thanks for getting back in touch and letting us know that.

We're afraid we don't have any further info on the specifics that might be causing this.

Take your time to test it on the next few days and keep us posted 🙂

Cheers!
