Spotify blocks all other audio apps from being controlled via bluetooth

My Question or Issue

Just switched back to Spotify Premium from another service and really regretting it after installing it on my phone.

It has cometely taken over my phone and overrides all other media players with regard to bluetooth controls. If I am listening to another media player on my phone, say an audiobook app, and I attempt to start/stop the player with the controls on my Bluetooth headphones, speaker, or my Samsung watch, Spotify starts up and starts playing. Even when I have the other media app active, Bluetooth controls only control Spotify.

I have half a dozen media apps on my phone and I've never had a problem with this until I installed Spotify last week. It's an incredibly obnoxious feature. Is there a work around to get Spotify to chill and accept that it's not the sole media player on my device.
