Spotify switches from Android Auto to Android Automotive - annoying

Country

Device

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE + Renault Megane Etech (with Android Automotive)

My Question or Issue

In this car I have Spotify on infotainment-screen in 2 ways:

1) android auto - connected to my mentioned samsung phone

2) android automotive - built-in into the infotainment-screen.

I prefer to listen Spotify on option #2 - best audio quality - but when I hit Play on spotify, the infotainment-screen imediately switches over to option #1.

Question is: How do I get Spotify to stop switching by itself ?

Hi there @mistermester,

Thanks for your reply and the info provided.

Maybe you can check the Android auto settings again. Go to the app > Settings and look for an option that should say something along the lines of "Start music automatically" or "Automatically start media when you start driving".

To answer your other question, no,  there's no option to disable Spotify Connect. But you can go to Spotify's settings > Devices > Connect to a device and from there see if you can see the car. If so, tap the 3 dots > Forget this device.

If the issue persists, would you mind sending us a video recording of this behavior? You can attach it in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public, so we can visualize it.

We'll keep an eye out for your reply!

Hey @mistermester,

Welcome to the Community!

In order to see if it will make any difference, we recommend that you first forget the Android Auto device and that you turn off your Bluetooth if you haven't already tried with these steps. You can check and follow the steps under 'Not working?' in this article and when it comes to disabling the Bluetooth on your phone, you can read the info in this website.

When it comes to Android Auto, you should also be able to disable it from automatically connecting to your phone by going into the Android Auto app > Start Android Automatically > (select) If Used on Last Drive or look for a different setting there to disable it if one's available. This should allow you to keep the Bluetooth from automatically turning on.

Hope this info helps and keep us posted on how it goes 🙂

Hey @ivelina,

Thank you for your answer.

I doubt I can use your suggestions, because I want to use Android Auto for other apps than Spotify, simultanously with listening to Spotify on Android Automotive.

I just want Spotify to stop switching to the phone's Spotify-app (Android Auto), when I press play on the car's Spotify-app (Android Automotive).

I suspect this problem relates to Spotify Connect, which I don't need. When I press play on one device, I want that device to play - not controlling/switching to other devices.

I hope you understand what I mean.

Can I disable Spotify Connect altogether somehow ?   where/how ?

Hi Susan_GP

Thank you !

It seemed to help when I opened Android auto settings and disabled "Start music automatically"
