Spotify thinks I'm a premium user when I am not

Spotify thinks I'm a premium user when I am not

Hello out there,

I used to be a premium Spotify user but now am just a regular free user (the premium account was granted as part of a cell phone dealer promo which has already expired).

Everything was working fine on my android phone until I noticed that I cannot play anything on the phone through spotify.  ALL music is greyed out.  Anything I choose, Spotify just keeps reminding me that "that is premium feature, please upgrade"

The spotify app on my computer works fine...i can listen to music, create playlists, and I get ads regularly....no problem.  When I select "connect to a device" I can see my phone as one of the other choices HOWEVER, it is greyed out with the label "Premium users only"

I am not a premium user but my spotify on my phone thinks I am and that's why it's locked out all controls?

Anyone have this problem?

Thanks

To select specific tracks on a mobile device, you have to have Premium. You should still be able to listen to any music on Spotify using the Shuffle Play option at the top of any playlist selected.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the response!

yes, I am aware that free users only have the Shuffle option available for listening.  However, my problem is that NOTHING plays...everything is greyed out....even tapping the shuffle button prompts me to upgrade to Premium....in other words, I'm completely locked out of everything in my mobile spotify.

I have reinstalled, logged out, logged in, cleared the cache, restarted the phone multiple times.  Nothing seems to work.  I am wondering is my only option to create a new account?  Spotify works fine on my laptop. All my playlists and listening history from my activities on the laptop carry over when I open up the spotify app on my phone.  Spotify on my phone only gives me ONE OPTION, to upgrade to Premium.

Heard of this?

This link should have the answers you need if you click on the solution at the bottom. Some diagnostics and troubleshooting steps included there.

I hope you find a solution there, I'd go crazy without my tunes! Best of luck

Hi again!

The link you provided contains solutions for ppl with a problem that is the OPPOSITE of mine.

I DO NOT have a Premium account.  I only have a free account.  I cannot play a single thing in my mobile spotify.  I cannot even shuffle play.  NOTHING.  This essentially renders Spotify on my phone useless.  Ofcourse I don't want to believe that since it worked before so there must be something weird going on either from my end (the phone - which I've already troubleshot) or the account settings (admin side)

Thanks

Sounds frustrating, sorry I misunderstood. I would try to contact Spotify directly for some assistance at support.spotify.com and have one of the professionals sort it out. My best guess is that when your promotional offer expired the transfer to the free version didn't work properly, but apart from checking your account info and making sure your subscription choice is the free option I wouldn't know how to fix it.

Sorry I couldn't help!

No worries!

Thank you for the quick response time tho!  I'll reach out to spotify support.  Thanks!
