My Question or Issue

Spotify has used 10gb of data over the last few days. My usual usage is 300-900mb per month for Spotify.

  • I listened to all my normal music, podcasts-- nothing with videos. Usage has remained high over the past few days, when I have almost always been connected to wifi.
  • My total downloads are only 900mb, so even if those all spontaneously re-downloaded, that's not the issue.
  • I didn't have data saver on, but I usually don't.

I'm now paying for extra data on my phone plan because of this.

Hi there @saresum,

Thank you for taking the time to post in the Community. Let's take a closer look into this.

To start with, can you make sure that you reinstall the app following the steps provided here

On another note - you can have different settings for listening online (Streaming quality). You can find more info about the different options in this support site article.

Keep in mind that the higher the stream quality, the more data will be used.

You can reduce your data usage by toggling on Data Saver from the app's settings on your mobile device. To find out how you can do this, along with other tips, we'd recommend taking a look at this support site article.

Let us know how it goes 🙂

Have a great Friday and start of your weekend!

Hey, unfortunately I can confirm the matter. I am using IOS and have premium / family plan for years. Germany based. Data saver is on and streaming quality for mobile is low. Basically I have this settings for over a year (dog walking for hours every day) and never changed anything. I checked everything to be sure and nothing has changed. Usually I don't take more than 1 GB within a month - but this month my data usage exploded and went far over 10GB.

Hello,

Maybe just in case, check in your phone settings that you didn't accidentally specify that spotify has to use only mobile data, in: Connections > data usage > mobile data only apps

Perhaps you could also go in the spotify settings and check your streaming preferences in terms of quality are still the same

Sorry for you you had to pay extra mobile data,

Hope this helps.

Hey there, some updates. I contacted the spotify help center and the agent who was getting into conversation with me, was saying they kinda know the problem and how to fix it:

Their main guess is a corrupted cache. Therefore the cache needs to be wiped / cleaned out.

So first step to do so, is to open spotify > setup > data storage (or what ever its called in your language) > wipe cache. Just the cache, not all the data.

Next step is the phone storage: it is required to do a total data wipe of spotify,

then the uninstallation.  Necessarily in that order.

Finally rebooting phone and doing a clean installation of spotify.

They stated, they are pretty sure, that should solve the issue.
