My question is why is Spotify using acceleration sensor if it doesn't have the "Running" feature anymore?

Thanks for bearing with us. We spoke to the tech team and can confirm everything is working as expected. Although we retired the Running feature, the accelerometer is still used for other parts of the app. We hope this clears things up!

That's odd. Can you let us know what device and operating system you're using? Also, did you notice this only with that version of Spotify, or with previous versions as well?
If you haven't already tried, give a clean reinstall a try to see if it helps.

I tried older Spotify versions dating back to March but the problem remains.
Using OnePlus 5T, Oreo 8.1
