Sudden 6GB download on Cellular Data by Android Spotify App

Sudden 6GB download on Cellular Data by Android Spotify App

I have a Android Samsung Galaxy phone. Download using Cellular setting is off. Yet on 1st December, Spotify downloaded 5.82GB on my cellular data connection without warning, as Foreground data. Since I can only restrict Background data, I could not have stopped this. It wasn't from playing music either.

I luckily happen to be on a plan that can allow for this data, but if I hadn't and it spilled over into PAYG data, it would have cost me about $300.

How did this happen? What even is the Spotify app doing downloading so much data? How do I ensure it never happens again, short of deleting the app (which is going to be my current solution)?

Hey @AresEra,

Thanks for posting in the Community!

We're sorry to hear that this has happened.

We'd recommend switching Offline Mode on when you're using Spotify away from your home network. This will assure that no mobile data is used at all.
