I have used Spotify to sync local files from my PC to android phone (currently Nexus 4) for a while now.
However when trying to sync a playlist full of local files today I get the 'Premium Required' popup, this is the same for all playlists that I try to sync.
Have Spotify stopped allowing you to sync local files without premium?
I'm having the exact same issue as tomb20.
All my local files used to sync fine to my Android Phone until the last update about 4 weeks ago. Now every time I try to download any local files / playlists to my phone I'm told that I need a premium account.
If anyone has ideas on how to fix this that would be great! 'cos at the moment a music playing app without any music isn't much use to me 😉
Thanks in advance!
Thanks for comfirming this isn't just me.
Wonder if this issue is just with the latest app update, will try installing an older version and see if that resolves the problem.
Update: Just tried an earlier version of the app (0.6.0.17) and the problem's still there.
Could you try a clean reinstall, following these instructions.
I have the same problem!
and i follow the instructions but the problem still continues...
Any other solution?
Hi Joe, Thanks for the reply!
Same as jmr1993, I already tried that. I also tried uninstalling the app from my Phone and then reinstalling (just as mentioned on the FAQ page). I also tried reinstalling spotify on my PC as a well and still no luck.
I can see my phone listed under "Devices" on the PC and I can see all my playlists on my phone but when I try to download my local files onto my phone it says I require a premium account.
It used to all work fine until about a month ago when the app was updated. I tried to put some extra playlists on my phone and then all the music was immediately wiped out.
Any suggestions on how to fix this would be great.
Many Thanks
Hi thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately a reinstall has not fixed the problem.
I have tried all the steps Shiai_Shujin has and the problem for me is exactly like they have described.
I can't be sure exactly when this problem started as I only noticed it when I tried to download all my playlists again.
Thanks, Tom
I'm out of ideas but fear not. I've escalated this issue to spotify staff.
Thanks Joe, I'm on a Samsung Galaxy S3 if that helps! Let us know if you need anymore info.
I'm having exactly the problem as you guys, I have an Optimus 2X.
Hope the staff fix it soon, it is weird that ask for a premium account for local files, even when it says that only local files are downlodable.
Yep, S3 here. In my case the Spotify desktop app definitely looked like it synced the files over to the app on my phone, but the prompt asking for premium popped up and I'm not able to access the files on my phone.
Same problem here, really hope it's a bug and not by design.
Yep I have the problem of not being able to select specific playlists as well. There are severel other threads with this problem without the 'Premium Required' pop-up so these two bugs might not be connected.
Same here.
I've reported this problem about a month ago.
Tried the clean re-install, on both pc and android (galaxy S plus) but still end up with a pc full of music, and an empty phone...
really looking forward to a solution!
Yeah just like Pernicketoad, if I try to sync my local files to my phone through my PC by manually selecting the playlists I want then it just immediately selects them all and tries to sync them (which will never work as there's far too much music to fit on my phone).
At least is sounds like we're all having the same issue, kinda confirms it's a bug rather than something to do with our hardware / software setup 😉
Hi guys. This is being looked into but meanwhile you should be able to synch from the desktop client under devices. There is however another possible issue (also being investigated by Spotify) in that it might try to synch all your playlists rather than just selected ones. If that happens to you, all I can suggest is to delete all but the playlists you actually want to synch.
To save having to recreate them, you can save them by selecting and dragging onto your desktop before deleting them. Afterwards you can drag them back into the desktop client.
I know this is far from ideal but hopefully it's a way you can continue enjoying your music on the move until Spotify come up with a solution.
