System notifications on Kindle Fire HD

I just started using Spotify on KIndle Fire HD. While Spotify was playing, the device made an audible notification sound when an email arrived despite "Mute All Notifications" being enabled. Has anyone encountered it? Do you know how to fix it? I know that it is technically a Kindle question not a Spotify question, but I tried to google for an answer, and only found people complaining that sound notifcation were NOT working, not that the were working when they shouldn't.

Does the email app have its own notification settings which you need to turn off?

Ha ha, stupid me, it does and I never checked it. On the other hand, it's pretty stupid that Kindle's built-in email app does not obey a device-wide setting!
