My Question or Issue

So the Spotify Playing Bar that's located in the notification bar keeps closing by itself, which causes the music to stop. But I'm sure it's not an app crash, because Spotify still runs in the background after that stop and when I open it, the app is immediately loaded at the exact point where it was last opened and the song is stopped at the point where playback was interrupted. Spotify has everything allowed and every restriction is disabled, no optimizer or antivirus is installed on my phone.

So I ran a test. I played a song on Spotify so the Playing Bar appeared and then I stopped it. Then I played a song on my local music player so a playing bar of this app appeared and I stopped it. After some time, around 10 minutes, the Spotify Playing Bar closed and the second playing bar of the local app was still open (I have never had a problem with automatic closing of that one). Then I disabled the option "Pin media player" in the system settings and surprise - I ran the test again and now after that time around 10 minutes both of the playing bars closed at the exact same time.

So, in conclusion, I think the Spotify Playing Bar is not somehow registred as "a media player" in system settings. I found that music playback on Android is managed by Media Session API, so is it possible that Spotify is not communicating properly with this feature? From my point of view this is a logical conclusion and I really don't know what else could be the cause of this problem.

I would appreciate any help or information on what the problem is.

Hi there @Krrenda,

Thanks for posting this thread in the Community!

Since you didn't mention setting Spotify as the default media player/default music app, would you mind changing this and let us know if it makes any difference? You may need to restart your device.

Please follow these steps:

  1. Bring up Google Assistant by activating it via the widget on your home screen or by saying, "Ok, Google".
  2. Tap your account icon at the bottom of the screen to open up the settings.
  3. Select Music.
  4. Now, tap Spotify to set it as your default music player.

We'll be on the lookout 🙂

Hello, thank you for the reply.

Unfortunately, Spotify does not appear in the "Music" section of the Google Assistant settings and there's no option to find it or add it. Actually no apps appear in that section, which I don't know if that's normal or not, I've never used the Assistant before.

Hey there @Krrenda,

Thanks for your reply and for the info shared.

In this case, can you replicate this behavior on another mobile device? It’d be awesome if you could check. You can ask for the mobile device of a relative or a friend to open your account there and check.

On another note, it's be awesome if you could send us the following:

  • The exact Spotify version you're running there.
  • A video recording of what's happening on your side. You can attach the video in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public, so we can visualize it.

Keep us in the loop!
