Why can you only download playlists now?

I am so upset. Up until two days ago, I was able to download any song, but now Spotify only allows me to download songs that I have created a playlist for. I want to know why a change was made. I've already done some troubleshooting like reinstalling the app and deleted my offline accounts, yet doing that makes no difference. I am not at the max number of downloads either. I want to be able to download any song like I used to. What is the problem, Spotify? Paying $10 a month to only download songs that I have to create a playlist for is not worth the money.

If you were able to download individual songs rather than just adding them to your library (+) then you were part of a small-scale trial which I guess has ended. Most of us have always only been able to download playlists, albums, podcasts and all songs as detailed here.

It's fairly trivial to work with this by creating a new playlist and setting it to download. Then you simply add a song you like to that playlist from the context meny and it will be downloaded automatically.

So, you'd have to create a playlist for each full album you want to download? That seems tedious and dismissive of the actual issue.
