clearing cache on Spotify Lite stops playback on Desktop (Linux)

clearing cache on Spotify Lite stops playback on Desktop (Linux)

using Spotify Lite v. 1.9.0.31695 on a Sony Xperia X running Android 8. newly installed.

Connect doesn't seem to work reliably on Lite, so the Android app and desktop client are not talking to each other. the desktop client doesn't reliably detect my mobile, and there is no way to switch playback from it to the client (switching between devices is an option on the desktop app when the phone is finally detected, but a tad glitchy).

yet clearing the cache on the app (not data, but within the Storage settings in the Spotify app) immediately causes playback to stop on the desktop client (laptop is currently running Xubuntu).

Hi there @unseenlarks,

Thanks for the post.

Spotify Connect features are currently not supported on the Lite app, this is most likely why you're having issues with this. Even if the phone is detected, it's not expected behavior to use the Lite app as a remote control when playing music on other Connect devices.

On another note the Linux Spotify app is not officially supported and we can't guarantee that it will function properly. The Linux app is a free side project created by the Spotify developer team, but we don't offer support for it, unfortunately, so we can't guarantee that Connect or any other functionality will work properly with that app.

Hope this info helps.

can't quite pin it on the Linux app, as the same thing happens when listening on an Android mobile. if i happen to clear Lite's cache while the standard app is playing music, it will wipe the queue and stop playback.

interestingly enough, it's similar behaviour to what i have previously reported, where clearing Firefox's history/cache (not cookies) causes playback on the web app to stop/crash. but this is on a computer running Xubuntu so... Linux to blame again? 😉

must say that i can't reproduce by clearing Chromium's history, so might need to investigate what is happening with Firefox.

Hey @unseenlarks,

Thanks for getting back to us.

We appreciate you taking the time to report this and share your feedback with us.

We'll make sure to pass it onto the right team and we'll work on enhancing the functionality of the Spotify Lite App, as we constantly strive to refine the user experience.

Hopefully you'll see if it gets improved, however, we can't guarantee when or if this will be taken into consideration.

In the meantime, we'd recommend always keeping your Spotify app up to date to ensure you're on the latest version, so you don't miss any important fixes, features and developments!

Cheers!
